It starts with a questionnaire
Applying for membership of ORB starts with taking the Responsible Business Questionnaire.
In fact, anyone is welcome to take our short, benchmark questionnaire without committing to membership. We think you will find it a thought-provoking exercise.
The questionnaire is just a snapshot of how you operate your business. It will only take about 15 minutes and on completion you will immediately receive a detailed response and summary.
Please be honest
Please be honest – with yourself and with us! False statements will not assist you and may invalidate your ORB membership. And do remember, we are not expecting perfection. We are all on a journey.
If you have successfully completed the questionnaire and wish to proceed with your membership application, you will be asked to commit to the ORB Members’ Pledge.

Once you have successfully completed the Responsible Business Questionnaire and committed to the ORB Members’ Pledge, shown opposite, you will also be asked if you prefer to pay your membership by annual or quarterly direct debit.
We use GoCardless as our payment provider, a system which ensures you receive notification before any payments are taken from your bank account. You are also able to cancel the direct debit yourself if you wish although, naturally, we hope your company will remain an #ORBMember for many years!

Let’s talk responsible business
You have successfully completed the questionnaire.
You have confirmed your commitment to the ORB Members’ Pledge.
And you have confirmed your preference for annual or quarterly payments.
So, what next?
Unlike many membership organisations, ORB prides itself on a more robust membership process and so we’ll do a little bit of background research and then one of the team will phone you for a chat about all things responsible business, what that means to you and your company, and how we can work together.
We will normally let you know by the end of our conversation if your application is successful.
Once your membership is accepted
Once your first direct debit payment has been received, which normally takes a week or so, your membership will be made live and you will be sent a Membership Certificate by email, although you can request a hard copy.
You will also be able to access a range of member logos which we hope you will use with pride.
You will also be able to access and update your Member’s Profile page in the Responsible Business Directory.
(Please note: completing all areas of your profile page within two months of joining is a condition of membership.)
Once you have joined and completed your profile page for the directory, you will be gifted a Kindle version of the foundational responsible business guide by our CEO: It Really Is Just Good Business.
You will also gain 6 months of complimentary access to the Responsible Business & Social Value course where you can learn how to implement even more thorough and important operational goodness at the core of your business or start up.
Most importantly, you will be part of a movement to drive the responsible business agenda.
There are more benefits to ORB membership, although we hope you are joining because you want to contribute to our purpose rather than the ubiquitous ‘what’s in it for me’ approach.
