On Monday 18th November people will start arriving in Southend for the Responsible Business Conference, heralding the start of Global Entrepreneurship Week.
The venue, the Park Inn Palace Hotel, overlooks the seafront and is a very short walk from Southend Central and Southend Victoria mainline stations for London.
The conference will explore the link between operating a successful, profitable business and “responsible entrepreneurship” which we’ll define as an embedded culture of ethics and consideration for people and the environment. Some think these “two sides of the coin” are mutually exclusive, but through presentations, practical examples, debate and workshops we aim to demonstrate that Responsible Entrepreneurship is the ONLY business model that is likely to succeed in the longer term.
Andy Wood OBE, CEO of Adnams and Chairman of New Anglia LEP is our Keynote Speaker. Most of you probably know Adnams ale, but did you know that the company also has an impeccable reputation for how it looks after its staff, supports the local community and works hard to reduce its environmental impact. Adnams are innovators: they have a successful and profitable business model and continue to expand their operations. Considering people and the environmenta has been a huge part of that growth strategy.
There’s also a competition for a “responsible business idea.” Blatella Films will be videoing contestants over the lunch period who will record 3-minute presentations. The organisers will shortlist the entries and the audience will vote for the winner. The prize is £200 cash courtesy of C2C Rail and a fabulous Adnams Hamper.
So why not come along and find out out to improve your business and enjoy a day working ON your business! It’s a full day conference but if you need to arrive late or leave early that’s not a problem. You’ll be very welcome. (But if you want to enter the competition you will need to be there by midday.)
Ticket costs start from only £10 (plus £1.25 Eventbrite fee) for micro business, students and representatives from not for profit organisations including colleges and universities. And thanks to the generous sponsorship of the Park Inn Palace, all ticket money will go to Variety, the Children’s Charity. The ticket price includes lunch and refreshments so this really is an excellent opportunity for everyone to attend and network with like-minded people.
