The MINDFUL EMPLOYER initiative originated in the South West Region and is administered by WorkWAYS in Devon. It aims to offer information, advice and support to employers in the public, private and third sectors and invites employers to sign up to an inspirational charter and work towards the aims of it through recruitment and retention.
The Charter is an important, public and tangible demonstration of commitment to the mental wellbeing of staff. It is a voluntary agreement which seeks to support employers in working within the spirit of its positive approach. Whether an organisation is a small, medium or large employer, the Charter fully respects there will be many different priorities, policies and practices which influence the way staff are recruited and retained.
In Essex, InterAct are supporting the initiative and are working in partnership with MINDFUL EMPLOYER. InterAct has taken the lead to set up two steering groups within the county, to plan for the launch of two Mindful Employer networks in the county for Spring 2010. The steering groups are made up of Mindful Employer organisations in Essex from across all three sectors with experience in supporting employees/learners to continue in work/study while receiving the level of support required meeting the individual needs.
The Networks are for all employers to attend whether they have signed up and are working towards the Mindful Employer Charter or have not made that step. The networks are to provide support, information, guidance and advice on how they can support their entire workforce mental wellbeing, therefore in return supporting their businesses to continue with their productivity and to reduce the costs that long term sickness and extra recruitment brings.
